Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Tired of the “Hysteria” Surrounding Them

Since their wedding day in May, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been subject to relentless attention. The world has been obsessed with their seemingly perfect love story right from the start, and whether it’s the Duchess’s style choices or their sweet PDA moments, every second of their public appearances together is captured on camera to be shared by millions. So it’s no huge surprise to hear that, after months of intense scrutiny and constant hounding, Harry and Meghan are soon expected to take a step back from being in the spotlight, in order to enjoy more privacy together.

A new report from Vanity Fair claims that the endless media frenzy, bombarding their friends and family as well as the couple themselves, has come a little too much for the newlyweds to handle. It’s thought that the royals are now preparing to make a conscious effort to spend time away from the world’s eye.

An insider explained that Meghan and Harry are both keen to take a break from being in the public eye, and focus more on enjoying each other’s company. “They spend a lot of time in the Cotswolds, more than people realize,” a friend revealed. “They are in the country way more than they are in London and they are enjoying a low-key and very domesticated start to married life. Harry’s not around that much anymore. Meghan likes him to keep his diary clear at the weekends so they can be together in the countryside.”

It’s thought that the couple are currently taking a break from their home in Kensington Palace, and renting a more secluded farmhouse cottage on the coveted Great Tew Estate, which gives them considerably more privacy. “It’s very clear they want to be private and left alone,” said one local. “The property is in the middle of woodland and you wouldn’t know it was there. It is very remote which is why they like it. It’s like a fortress. There’s a huge security presence, you can’t get close.”

According to the report, Harry is becoming increasingly “uncomfortable” with the focus on his new wife. “He worries there is too much hysteria around Meghan and he wants to row back a bit,” the source added.

Hopefully, the upcoming scheduled vacation time for Harry and Meghan will help to ease the pressure a little, too.

Julie Chen Defends Husband Les Moonves After 6 Women Accuse Him of Sexual Misconduct

Julie Chen is speaking out about the sexual misconduct allegations made against her husband, CBS CEO Leslie Moonves.

On Friday, Chen released a statement on Twitter supporting her husband in the wake of the allegations brought against him by six women.

“I have known my husband, Leslie Moonves, since the late ’90s, and I have been married to him for almost 14 years. Leslie is a good man and a loving father, devoted husband and inspiring corporate leader,” she tweeted.

“He has always been a kind, decent and moral human being,” she continued. “I fully support my husband and stand behind him and his statement.”
In a piece by Ronan Farrow in The New Yorker published Friday, six women — including actress Illeana Douglas and writer Janet Jones — who professionally dealt with Moonves between the 1980s and late aughts, have accused him of sexual misconduct.

“Six women who had professional dealings with him told me that … Moonves sexually harassed them. Four described forcible touching or kissing during business meetings, in what they said appeared to be a practiced routine. Two told me that Moonves physically intimidated them or threatened to derail their careers,” Farrow writes in his piece. “All said that he became cold or hostile after they rejected his advances, and that they believed their careers suffered as a result.”

In a statement to The New Yorker, Moonves admitted to acting inappropriately in the past.

“Throughout my time at CBS, we have promoted a culture of respect and opportunity for all employees, and have consistently found success elevating women to top executive positions across our company. I recognize that there were times decades ago when I may have made some women uncomfortable by making advances,” he said.

“Those were mistakes, and I regret them immensely. But I always understood and respected — and abided by the principle — that ‘no’ means ‘no,’ and I have never misused my position to harm or hinder anyone’s career. This is a time when we all are appropriately focused on how we help improve our society, and we at CBS are committed to being part of the solution,” he continued.

National Lipstick Day: 5 things you never knew about the cosmetic

It’s no secret that makeup is a powerful tool for transformation, making its popularity around the world for centuries simply logical. Lipstick in particular is universally beloved, as it can finish a look with a flourish or make a bold statement on its own.

In honor of National Lipstick Day on July 29, read up on these five fun facts about the much-adored cosmetic.

1. For almost as long as people have been getting dressed up, they’ve been wearing lipstick. According to BuzzFeed, history’s first use of lip paint can be traced back to around 5000 BCE in the modern-day Iraq and Kuwait region.

2. Since its early days, lipstick has been favored by royalty. Cleopatra may be famed for her eyeliner, but the Egyptian ruler was also known to tint her lips with a mixture of carmine and henna, Avon reports. Queen Elizabeth I too shared a penchant for lip color, famously lipstick as part of her signature look.

3. Despite appearances, when silent films first hit the silver screen in the 1920s, many actresses were not actually wearing black lipstick. The film stock was sensitive to color – making red lip stains appear black on screen, Makeup.com notes.

4. The average American woman will spend roughly $1,780 on lipstick in her lifetime, according to BuzzFeed.

5. The “lipstick index” is veritable phenomenon. Coined by Leonard Lauder, the former chairman of Estée Lauder, the theory claims that sales of the product often spike in times of financial hardship, as lipstick is a relatively affordable splurge, The Economist states.

Demi Lovato rushed to hospital for possible overdose: Report

Demi Lovato was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after allegedly suffering a drug overdose, but she is reportedly now in “stable” condition.

TMZ, citing police, said it appears that the singer suffered an “apparent heroin overdose.” However, The Blast said that “sources extremely close to the star are adamant she was not abusing heroin.”

According to TMZ, Demi was transported from her home in the Hollywood Hills to an area hospital for treatment on July 24 shortly before noon. TMZ noted that “paramedics found Demi unconscious when they arrived at her home.”

Page Six said the LAPD would not confirm whether Demi was transported, but said it responded to a “medical

emergency” at 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday at a private residence.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Demi was treated with Narcan, an emergency treatment for narcotic overdoses, at her home. On Tuesday afternoon, People magazine reported that Demi was “stable.”

Demi has been open about her struggles with cocaine and alcohol in the past. She was apparently sober for six years until recently.

On June 21, Demi dropped a new song and video for “Sober,” in which she hinted that she had relapsed.

“Momma I’m so sorry / I’m not sober anymore / And Daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor,” she sang. “To the ones who never left me / we’ve been down this road before / I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.”
“I’m sorry that I’m here again / I promise I’ll get help / It wasn’t my intention,” she sang. “I’m sorry to myself.”

Demi was scheduled to go on the road this week, but, TMZ said, “our sources say she’s been struggling.” She played a concert with Iggy Azalea on July 22 in Paso Robles, California.

JAY-Z Calls Out Philadelphia Mayor Over Made in America Fest’s Future

Earlier this week, a rep for Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said JAY-Z’s Made in America festival will have to be held somewhere other than the city’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway next year due to costs. JAY-Z responded to the news in an op-ed penned for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

In it, the rapper criticizes the mayor for pulling the Parkway plug “through a media outlet” after the festival had called it home since its inception in 2012.

“We are disappointed that the mayor of the city of Philadelphia would evict us from the heart of the city, through a media outlet, without a sit-down meeting, notice, dialogue, or proper communication,” JAY-Z wrote. “It signifies zero appreciation for what Made in America has built alongside the phenomenal citizens of this city.”

JAY-Z also claimed that he received a “legal letter trying to stop the 2018 event” from the mayor’s office. This year’s festival is scheduled for September 1-2 with Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Meek Mill and others.

Several hours after the op-ed was published, Mayor Kenney responded with his own statement via Variety that calls the entire situation an “unfortunate understanding” that all are “working to resolve.”

“The City of Philadelphia supports the Made in America festival and is greatly appreciative of all that it has done for Philadelphia,” he said. “We are committed to its continued success and thank them for their partnership. We hope to be able to resolve what has been an unfortunate misunderstanding. We are working with Roc Nation and Live Nation to resolve this issue and we are committed to continuing our partnership with the Made in America festival.”

Zuckerberg defends Facebook users’ right to be wrong – even Holocaust deniers

Mark Zuckerberg defended the rights of Facebook users to publish Holocaust denial posts, saying he didn’t “think that they’re intentionally getting it wrong”.

In an interview with Recode published on Wednesday, the CEO also explained Facebook’s decision to allow the far-right conspiracy theory website
Infowars to continue using the platform, saying the social network would try to “reduce the distribution of that content”, but would not censor the page.

Zuckerberg’s comments came the same day that Facebook announced a new policy pledging to remove misinformation used to incite physical harm.

The CEO’s remarks to Recode have reignited debates about free speech on the social network at a time when Facebook is continuing to face scrutiny over its role in spreading misinformation, propaganda and hate speech across the globe.

Elon Musk Apologizes to Thai Cave Rescue Diver He Called a “Pedo”

In what could be the final episode in Elon Musk’s bizarre intrusion on the Thai cave rescue story, Musk apologized on Wednesday to Vernon Unsworth, the British caver he publicly and baselessly called a pedophile.

“[My] words were spoken in anger after Mr. Unsworth said several untruths & suggested I engage in a sexual act with the mini-sub, which had been built as an act of kindness & according to specifications from the dive team leader,” Musk said on Twitter. “Nonetheless, his actions against me do not justify my actions against him, and for that I apologize to Mr. Unsworth and to the companies I represent as leader. The fault is mine and mine alone.”

The comment about a “sexual act with the mini-sub” appears to refer to a suggestion by Unsworth, who participated in the widely publicized rescue of a dozen Thai boys from a flooded cave, that Musk “stick his submarine where it hurts.”

The feud between these two men revolved around Musk’s efforts to build a miniature submarine to transport the children trapped in the cave. Musk did build a version of the submarine and bring it to Thailand, but officials involved in the rescue operation chose not to use it. Unsworth told CNN in an interview soon afterward that the submarine was a “PR stunt” with “absolutely no chance of working.”

In response, Musk tweeted that “we will make [a video] of the mini-sub/pod going all the way to Cave 5 no problemo.” He added, “Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it.”

As Musk was being widely criticized for abusing his considerable influence on Twitter to attack a far less powerful man who played a leading role in the rescue operation, Unsworth told the press that he was weighing legal action.

Unsworth told Reuters on Wednesday that he was aware of Musk’s apology but did not comment any further on it.

Musk did not seem wholehearted in his contrition. After all, while he apologized to Unsworth, the apology appeared in a response to another user’s tweet that linked to a defense of Musk. “Journalism is dead,” the Twitter user wrote.

Ángela Ponce will become the first transgender woman to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.

MADRID — Asked when she first realized that she was a girl, Ángela Ponce answered with her own question: “And when did you first know you were a boy?”
After winning Spain’s national beauty contest last month, Ms. Ponce will become the first transgender woman to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. But she is also on a mission to challenge traditional concepts of gender and beauty, as well as to break down what she sees as unacceptable barriers in the fashion industry.

“Having a vagina doesn’t make a woman,” she said in an interview. “Even if many people don’t want to see me as a woman, I clearly belong among them.”

The Good Place’s Ted Danson is still the best comedic actor on TV

Ted Danson is the LeBron James of television, with almost as much hardware to show for it and more Finals appearances.
The man has been a staple of television since Sam Malone first appeared on the small screen in 1982. Since then, he has won two Emmys (both for Sam) while racking up 15 total nominations. If you’re in the camp that LeBron is better than Michael Jordan because of his sustained success, you probably also have to acknowledge the same for Danson’s long, impressive career.

His latest project, The Good Place, finds Danson flexing his comedic muscles as an immortal demon who designed a faux heaven to torture three humans in a cruel cosmic experiment.

As usual, Danson has knocked his role as Michael the bow-tie-sporting demon out of the park. The Good Place is arguably the best comedy on television, and Danson was its season 2 MVP. Not giving him his 16th Emmy nomination would be a forking shame.
