Man Believes He May Be Child Who Went Missing 25 Years Ago, Gives DNA to Police

A man who believes he could be D’Wan Sims, a 4-year-old boy who went missing in 1994 and is presumed dead, has submitted his DNA to police for testing.

Captain Ronald Taig of the Livonia Police Department tells PEOPLE authorities became aware of the 25-year-old after he contacted Michigan State Police on Dec. 5.

On Dec. 11 — the 25th anniversary of D’Wan’s disappearance — Livonia officers took the man’s DNA to be tested.

Before going to police, the man made posts on social media talking about his beliefs. He reportedly shared stories his parents had told him about his childhood before going to police with his theory.

“It’s very odd because he came here claiming that he wanted this to be confidential but then I find out that he’s on social media talking about this and, you know, kind of broadcasting it on those outlets,” Taig says.

Boy, 13, Pleads Guilty to Killing Teen Girl Because He Falsely Thought She Was Pregnant

An Ohio teenager killed a 14-year-old girl after she told him she thought she was pregnant — he reportedly feared he was the father.

In March, 14-year-old Sylvia McGee was fatally shot by a 13-year-old boy (PEOPLE is withholding his name due to his age).

On Wednesday, in juvenile court, the teen boy pleaded true— the equivalent of guilty— to murder, Stark County Assistant Prosecutor Michelle Cordova tells PEOPLE.

Cordova says the perpetrator had told police he and McGee believed she was pregnant with his child.

“That is what I believe got this whole thing started,” Cordova said on Wednesday, according to the Canton Repository. “There was no evidence of any other reason for this.”

But McGee was not actually pregnant, Cordova says, citing an autopsy.

“It’s still not closure,” Carlina Hanley, McGee’s great aunt, told the Repository after the hearing. ”[He] should have just admitted it from the beginning. She didn’t deserve that…She wasn’t that type of a kid. She was upbeat and funny. I just can’t believe that he did that.”

McGee was in the eighth grade at the Compton Learning Center’s Connections Program, WKYC reports.

“[She] was always funny, smiling, nothing ever dragged her down, not one thing,” the victim’s friend Tabitha McCarthy told the station after her death.

Before her death, McGee hoped to become a beautician.

“She talked about owning her own business,” Hanley said, according to the Repository. “She talked about moving to New York and taking her maternal grandmother with her.”

“I knew that she could always excel in life, in anything that she chose to do,” she continued. “She wanted everybody to get along. She wanted everybody to just be friends — that’s just the type of personality she had.”

Attorney information for the teen boy was unavailable Tuesday. He was not tried as an adult because he was 13 at the time of the crime. He accepted a plea agreement that brought an aggravated murder charge down to murder.

As part of the plea, the teen will remain behind bars in a youth prison until he is 21 and will undergo a psych evaluation. If he is deemed a serious youthful offender, Cordova says the boy would face time in adult prison of 18 years to life.

He will be sentenced in January.

Student Accused Roommate’s Boyfriend of Sex Assault, Was Allegedly Strangled by Him Days Later

Newly released court documents reveal the final moments of Clark Atlanta University student Alexis Crawford’s life before she was killed, allegedly by her roommate and the roommate’s boyfriend.

An arrest warrant alleges that on Oct. 31, Alexis was strangled by her roommate’s boyfriend Barron Brantley, 21, after getting into a fight with her roommate, Jordyn Jones, in their off-campus apartment, WSBTV reports.

The fight came hours after Alexis and Jones had gone to get alcohol late at night, the warrant says. The fight had already turned physical before Brantley got involved, according to the warrant.

During the altercation, Brantley allegedly choked Alexis until she died, the warrant states, ABC News reports.

“Afterwards Jones and Brantley placed Alexis Crawford in a plastic bin and transported her body to Exchange Park in Decatur, GA, where they placed her body in the woods,” states an Atlanta Police Department report obtained by WSBTV.

Woman who wrote ‘How To Murder Your Husband’ essay charged with murdering husband

A romance novelist who penned an essay titled “How To Murder Your Husband” has been charged with murdering her husband.

Nancy Crampton-Brophy, 68, is the author of pulp-style books including The Wrong Husband and The Wrong Lover whose covers feature dashing and occasionally shirtless men.

Police in Portland, Oregon, said she was arrested last week on suspicion of shooting dead her husband, Daniel Brophy, in June.

Mr Brophy, a chef, was found dead at the Oregon Culinary Institute where he worked.
Authorities have said he was alone at the school when he was discovered by students and staff.

Mr Brophy, 63, had worked at the school since 2006.

Ms Crampton-Brophy announced the death of her husband on Facebook a day after the killing, saying she was “struggling to make sense of everything right now.”

She was booked into jail on accusations of murder and unlawful use of a firearm.

On her blog, “See Jane Publish”, Ms Crampton-Brophy wrote a post describing five main motives she could use in stories about women killing their husbands in a novel, as well as a series of murder weapons.

Poison was not a good idea, she wrote, because “who wants to hang out with a sick husband?”

Nor was paying an assassin, because “an amazing number of hitmen rat you out to the police”, she wrote, according to The Washington Post.

The author is being held in jail without bail, the paper reported.

Mr Brophy’s mother, Karen, told the Post: “It’s a big shock. But we’re not making any statements.”

Brother arrested after bodies of sister, her boyfriend found in trash bags

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A suburban Detroit man wanted by police in the slayings of his sister and her boyfriend has been arrested at an Ohio library. Clinton Township police say Robert Marzejka was arrested Wednesday, three days after the victims’ bodies were found in trash bags. He’s charged with first-degree murder in Macomb County.

Police say Marzejka was arrested without a struggle at a library in Cincinnati. He’s being held Thursday at the Hamilton County, Ohio, jail while awaiting an extradition hearing Friday.

The bodies of 18-year-old Danielle Marzejka and 19-year-old Seren Bryan were discovered Sunday in a shed in Clinton Township.

MLive reports Danielle Marzejka and Bryan were last seen alive Aug. 23. Danielle Marzejka’s father filed a missing person report when he hadn’t heard from her two days later.

The next day, Danielle Marzejka’s brother — not the one charged — noticed an odor coming from a small storage unit near the back of the family’s property. He cut open a black trash bag and saw an arm.

Police determined the bodies belonged to Danielle Marzejka and Bryan before announcing that they were searching for Robert Marzejka.
The Macomb County Medical Examiner’s Office hasn’t officially released the cause of death.

Clinton Township police Capt. Richard Maierle told People that motive for the slaying is a mystery.

“What possessed him to do it?” Maierle says. “We don’t have any idea.”

According to court records, Robert Marzejka was the subject of a petition for forced hospitalization due to mental illness in February 2015.
